Solitary Creatures is a great summer read that deftly tells the story of a young woman’s visit to Costa Rica from North Carolina, her search for new purpose, and her newly recognized close bonds with the animals rescued by a struggling wildlife sanctuary. The story is fun, well written, and engaging, with a full cast of characters, human and animal alike. (Think sloths, ocelots, monkeys, etc.) I loved the lightness of the Costa Rican setting, balanced by the serious wildlife rescue theme, all deftly explored with drama and humor. The author’s love of Costa Rica and its people and wildlife clearly shines through, and I look forward to more novels in this series.
